Green Brook Police Department

Police Blotter Page from 1915

Some of the entries are pretty interesting. Toward the bottom of the page you can see that Police Officers found Mayerski selling hard cider. They also broke up a crap game at the brick yard.

Equipment carried in patrol vehicle 1966

Here is the equipment carried in the trunk of a patrol car in 1966. The portable radio to the left must have really been a technological breakthrough. You also never know when you are going to need a hacksaw on patrol.

Equipment carried in the "all purpose" vehicle 1966

It is said that Police Officers have to be "Jacks of all trades" this is a good thing since we carried a sheeting hammer and carpenters knife in 1966 in the all purpose vehicle.

Suspicious Incident 1971

The driver of this truck did not know what he was carrying but he was told when he set out that if the refrigeration unit broke and the cargo started to get warm bad things would happen.

Well after his truck broke down he called the Green Brook Police Department who investigated and found the cargo was napalm canisters destined for Vietnam. It was a good thing that it was a cold February day in 1971.

The Plane Crash

On November 29, 1964 this plane was carrying Santa Clause who was suppose to parachute out into the parking lot of Great Eastern in North Plainfield, now the location of K-mart as a publicity stunt. The plane suffered engine failure which caused engine parts to penetrate a Briar Circle residents roof. Santa bailed out and landed in the Green Brook near the Plainfield boarder and the plane was forced to emergency land in a field which is the location of the present day Green Brook Public Works garage on Rock Avenue.

Animal Calls

Police officers respond to animal calls. They handle everything from the stray dog to the injured deer to the errant 30 pound snapping turtle that terrorized bathers at the Green Brook Swim Club in 1972.
